This is Love. Part 2

(...continuing from This is Love Part 1)

Love can only come from God, and love is God!  Seek God and find love.  Seek love and find God.

Song of Songs 8:6-7
Place me like a seal over your heart,like a seal on your arm;
for love is as strong as death,
its jealousy unyielding as the grave.
It burns like blazing fire,
like a mighty flame.

Many waters cannot quench love;
rivers cannot wash it away.
If one were to give
all the wealth of his house for love,
it would be utterly scorned.”

Love is as strong as death.  Think about it, death is permanent.  Nothing and no one can defeat death, (except of course Jesus Christ, and only through him can we receive eternal life.)  Apart from Jesus is death…for all of us.  No doubt about it.  Sound promising enough?

Well the good news is, just as certain as death is real and everlasting, so is LOVE!!  The Bible says God is love.  God is eternal and never changing, therefore love is forever consistent and true.  Make sure you understand we are talking about love here (not to be confused with Lust.)  So when I talk about God I am referring to love, and when I am talking about love I am referring to God.  The two are synonymous. Clear enough? hah!

“…If one were to give all the wealth of his house for love, it would be utterly scorned.” Love can’t be bought or earned.  It’s priceless.  It’s a gift.  Love came to earth, healed and helped people, suffered and was tempted, bled and died, and rose again so that we could know God and understand the deep healing love he has for us.  We are horrible people with our own agenda—we did absolutely NOTHING to deserve this.  That’s why I mentioned that it was a gift.  It was given to you and it is now your choice to open that gift, or let it go to waste sitting on the shelf.  We can’t loose this gift, because we never earned it in the first place.

“…many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away.”  God is indestructible.  He cannot be destroyed, not even by a flood the size of Irene!  Isaiah 43:2 says,
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you…”
That tells us that love never leaves us.  He’s always there to carry us through the storm and guide us to the light.  It’s up to us to ask for that guidance and put down our own agendas though!  How much love does our God have for us?

Some of you may have heard the story about the man who built his house on the sand and was quickly washed away when the storm came.  However, the man who built his house on the rock was safe throughout the storm.  (check out Matthew 7:24-27)  Think about it.

What's your life built on?  Is it everlasting or will it fail you when the storms come?
